American Indian Movement was founded in 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota with an agenda that focused on spirtually, leadership and sovereignty. Founders included Dennis Banks, George Mitchell, Herb Powless, Clyde Bellecourt, Harold Goodsky, Eddie Benton-Banai. AIM's leaders spoke out against high unemployment, slum housing, and racist treatment, fought for treaty rights and to reclaim the tribal land.
