The red power movement was the occupation of a deserted federal prison on the Alcatraz island which was in San Francisco bay in 1969. It was being taken over by some what 200 Indians who called themselves the "Indians of all tribes." They demanded federal funds for a multifaceted cultural and educational center. Although the protesters failed to achieve their specific goals, they helped the Indian community. A very prideful protester once said "we got back our worth, our pride, our dignity, our humanity," after all the work they did.
